The Financial Side of Estate Planning: Beyond Wills and Trusts
Hear a talk on the financial decisions behind estate planning, beyond just wills and trusts.
Registration is recommended. Seating is limited. Walk-ins are also welcome. Most people think of estate planning as a legal task — a will, a trust, a folder in a drawer. But many of the decisions that determine how your assets actually reach your family are financial ones, made on account forms and beneficiary designations years apart. What you'll learn: What legal documents do... And don't. Wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives: what each one accomplishes, and where its authority stops. How your assets actually transfer. Why beneficiary designations and account titling often decide who receives what - no matter what your will says. Overlooked areas that cause issues. Outdated beneficiaries, joint ownership problems, blended families, digital footprints, overlooked retirement rules and uncoordinated advice. Taxes, family, and legacy goals. How inherited retirement accounts are taxed, and how to coordinate family, charitable, and legal decisions into a cohesive plan. Every attendee receives complimentary resources, including an Estate Planning Readiness Checklist to organize their own information. Who should attend: Retirees Those approaching retirement Parents and grandparents Anyone who has accumulated assets and wants to protect their family We are also hosting the same workshop on Thursday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m. Presented by Daniel L. Foss, Ch FC, CLU.
